The exhibition “Gregory Crewdson: Eveningside,” curated by Jean-Charles Vergne, brings together for the first time the three series of the photographer conceived between 2012 and 2022. Thought of as a trilogy, they offer a fresh perspective on a decade of creation, revealing the intimate side of the universe that has made Crewdson one of the fundamental figures in photography. Staged using cinematic techniques, his shots progressively weave together the fragments of a twilight world inspired by a certain type of cinematic imagery rooted in collective memory and American literary culture.

Eveningside is the third and final core of Crewdson’s trilogy, which began with “Cathedral of the Pines” (2013-2014) and “An Eclipse of Moths” (2018-2019). In contrast to the solitary and remote forests of Cathedral of the Pines and the gloomy post-industrial landscapes of An Eclipse of Moths, with the unpublished series Eveningside, the photographer explores isolated human figures within the confines of their daily lives, where the atmosphere evokes classic film noir and the tradition of black and white photography, making the work even more fascinating.

The exhibition extends across four main spaces: the entrance, featuring a series of small-scale works aligned and grouped according to different themes; the vaulted hall, with works arranged along the four main walls and in the transverse partitions; the Trecento room, with works positioned around the perimeter of the space and on the walls arranged in a horseshoe shape in the core of the room; and room S23, where the works are presented around the perimeter and on the three orthogonal walls in the middle.
